Last week in our Disciple II class with Jay (scroll down), he asked us to come up with five verses or passages from the Bible that give us hope and sum up why we are Christians.

1. Matthew 17:20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I find comfort in that because I realize my faith is ever-growing and yet I can still do things through God already. How much more will I be able to do as my faith continues to mature.

2. Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God is always there for us.

3. Psalm 23:6

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

I can’t think of anything better than knowing I will always be in God’s presence.

4. Psalm 100

1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

<sup>2</sup> Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.

<sup>5</sup> For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

This one speaks for itself.

5. Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

We can never forget that God was and is and always will be. It is our duty to glorify Him with our lives.

A politically correct Christmas poem…sent by a friend.

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

See the PC Police had taken away
The reason for Christmas—no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About shepherds and wise men and angels and things.

It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say—
December 25th is just a “holiday.”
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit,
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!

CDs from Madonna, an Xbox, and iPod,
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanza
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe’s the word “Christmas” was nowhere to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penney’s and Sears,
You won’t hear the word “Christmas”—it won’t touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, now Darden, now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen,
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!

At the top of the Senate there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith,
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded,
The Reason for the Season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate “winter break” under your “dream tree,”
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.

Choose your words carefully, choose what you say,
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS…not Happy Holiday!

I can’t imagine that language will still be a barrier once we get to heaven but I haven’t personally seen any scripture that describes communication in heaven. I found an article that states the following:

My ancestors stoutly maintained that it would be Dutch, of course. A rabbi I know has told me it will be Hebrew; every baby, he said, still remembers the language that will be restored in Heaven, the language of Eden, as evidenced by the fact that a child’s first word is often abba (“Father” or “Daddy” in Hebrew).

It will be none of the languages that now divide us, which began at Babel. Babel and its babble will be reversed. This was foreshadowed at Pentecost, where distinctive languages were preserved, not muddled, yet each person understood everyone else. Perhaps there will be as many languages as there are individuals, and yet at the same time only one. What is sure is that there will be no misunderstanding. Language, like clothing, now both reveals and conceals, unveils and veils meaning. In Heaven, language, like clothing, will only reveal.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

That is the question.

I was sitting here today realizing that I don’t believe that spouses are together in Heaven and it really scared me. If you’re wondering, there is one simple question that I can’t answer that makes me believe that we’re not with our spouses in Heaven. If a woman has a husband that dies and then she remarries, to which husband is she with in Heaven and why? Another possible concern is children that die before they’re old enough to be in a relationship or adults that never find that special someone.

I found a blog that pointed to Matthew 22:23-30 which states the following:

23That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24“Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. 25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27Finally, the woman died. 28Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”

29Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

I want to get everyone’s views about why they think or don’t think spouses are together in Heaven as they are on Earth. Please be as descriptive as possible.
