Where’s My Security Tab?!
December 30, 2007 – 3:36 pmSo you’ve got Windows XP Home and you need to update folder permissions. Good luck. Windows XP Home has “Simple File Sharing” enabled by default and there is no place for you to change it. The workaround is as follows:
- Download the Security Configuration Manager Tool from Microsoft’s FTP Server.
- Extract the files to your desktop.
- Right-click on “setup.inf” and click install.
- Reboot your computer.
- You now have access to advanced folder and file permissions in Windows XP Home!
If think you’ll only need to access the advanced options once you can always boot into safe mode and log in as the administrator instead of going through the steps above.
