Fixing Printer Margins in Microsoft Outlook 2003

October 9, 2007 – 3:51 pm

Apparently the Outlook 2003 developers failed all of their “Building Intuitive Applications” classes. If your printer margins get changed, don’t go to the place you think the settings should be to change them back. So where should the settings be?

File -> Page Setup -> Define Print Styles…

But but but…the settings are there. Right? Wrong! I’m not sure what those settings affect, but changing them had no effect on the emails I printed over and over and over.

So where are the settings?

  1. Open an email (preferably the email you want to print).
  2. Within the email go to File -> Page Setup -> Memo Style
  3. You’ll see the margins at the bottom of the window.

Basically the email-specific settings end up being the global Outlook settings and the global settings end up changing absolutely nothing in regards to printer margins.
